Tasks

  • Conduct chemical analyses of blood, urine and other body fluids
  • Study blood cells and other tissues
  • Prepare tissue sections for microscopic examinations
  • Establish procedures for analysis of specimens and for medical laboratory experiments
  • Train and supervise staff
  • Perform blood group, type and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes
  • Conduct quality control assessment of testing techniques
  • Set up medical laboratory equipment
  • Log patient samples and prepare them for testing
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests and sample analyses
  • Collect tissue specimens for chemical analysis and record findings
  • Collect blood, tissue or other samples from patients
  • Arrange for radiographic examinations of patients for autopsy
  • Discard specimens according to established safety procedures
  • Supervise and train junior resident pathologists and morgue attendants
